Climate Narratives
The crisis of climate change will require working together across political divides in order to find solutions. How can we find common ground despite differing political opinions, when overwhelming and sometimes conflicting information about a rapidly changing climate can lead to uncertainty and hopelessness?
Climate Narratives hopes to harness the power of storytelling through words and images to foster connection in a time of widespread catastrophic rhetoric and divisive conversation. Hughen/Starkweather interview people from a wide range of backgrounds about their personal experiences with climate-related events. Based on these collected stories, the artists create a series of abstract, two-dimensional artworks. The artworks are exhibited alongside excerpts from the personal narratives. Through these words and images, the artists hope to encourage new connections and perspectives in the search for common ground on this increasingly urgent topic.
